The .lk domain is Sri Lanka’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD), introduced on June 15, 1990. It is managed
by the LK Domain Registry, which ensures the stability and security of domain registrations in Sri Lanka.
Initially, the .lk domain was
administered by Dr. Gihan Dias, who operated it from California before transitioning
its management to Sri Lanka. Over time, the domain registry evolved into an independent organization, ensuring
that Sri Lankan businesses and individuals could establish their online presence with .lk domains.
In 2011, Sri Lanka introduced internationalized domain names (IDNs) in Sinhala (.ලං කා ) and Tamil (.இலங்கை )
to support local language websites.
